About Us

JoJo and KiKo Pet Services is an independently owned local small business operating out of Nutley, New Jersey.  Following a dream, Nancy Chan launched the company back in January 2015.  My nature with animals is deeply rooted in the special bonds created, then shared between companion pets and their people.  These relationships drive me to deliver the level of service with the responsibility, trust and care I provide to members of my own family.

My connection with dogs began in 2002, when I was introduced to a vibrant, yet timid one and a half year old Boxer named Josie.  As a result of scheduling conflicts, this sweet girl was being surrendered when her previous owner made the difficult decision he could no longer provide her with the level of care she needed.  Weighing in at a very low 32 pounds with signs of little to no socialization, her transition was not easy.  There were many moments of separation anxiety, fear and subsequent destructive behavior.  After this unfortunate start at life, it was Josie’s kind and forgiving nature despite adversity that sourced my admiration for dogs.  Our amazing bond continued to grow for another four years when the newest member joined my family.  Orie, a feisty 8 week old pet store Frenchie characterized and illustrated every bully trait imaginable.

For years, the planning of vacations and weekend outings were always tricky.  Finding reliable pet care could best be described as excruciating.  Most services or facilities may crate or kennel your pets.  Those that did not were generally a pack which always left us worried our pup(s) would not receive one on one attention as they would get lost in the mix .  Having two dogs which spend most evenings cozied on your lap in a chair or with a head rested atop a pillow beside you in bed helps to make the decision easy.  Unless the venues were pet friendly, most plans were cut short and vacations were put on hold.

My love and compassion for animals is no secret to anyone who meets me.  From rescuing an abandoned stray in the frigid winter after a long days work, looking after neighbors’ pet(s) while they were away, to volunteering and fostering.  Oh and there was that fantastic event Chester the baby Squirrel popped into my life and made me "Mother of Squirrel".  I'm the person to greet the animal(s) at any party before mingling with the human guests.

Spring 2014 was a pivotal moment as this marked the onset to Josie’s rapidly declining health.  Seeing my spirited girl revert to a state requiring monitored care was a cruel reality which I was forced to confront rather quickly.  Then having to part ways with my best friend soon after hit me with a gut punch.  In my naivete I once believed we had saved Josie and gave her a second chance at a good life.  In retrospect, having to say goodbye I realized it was Josie's joy and conviction which instead gave true meaning and purpose to mine.

After spending nearly a decade pushing papers in Corporate America, I took a huge leap of faith and decided to leave that behind to fulfill a dream I had been putting off.  My love for animals gave me purpose and I decided to dedicate my days instead to offering care services that would help others approach these difficulties in confidence.  This is how JoJo and KiKo Pet Services has come to fruition and made me a professional pet mom.
